What is Dixon Grown?

Dixon Grown is an initiative created by the City of Dixon to help every resident have a voice in how our community moves from our roots to our future. Our goal is to break down the same information that the City uses in policy decision-making so you can feel confident joining the conversation about Dixon’s roadmap. We also recognize and appreciate the local developers who have contributed funding to support this effort, helping make this resource possible for the community.

While this site will grow to cover many topics, we are starting with a focus on Housing and Potential Growth. Since these are the biggest conversations happening in Dixon right now, we’ve built this space to help you track current projects and understand the facts and trade-offs behind them. Here you can:

Why now?

Several local and regional factors are driving the current planning conversation:

  • Fiscal Realities: While our current infrastructure is generally sufficient for our existing population, there is a need to maintain and upgrade our streets and community parks, along with a growing community desire for new resources, such as expanded services, amenities and local businesses. The City is evaluating how to fund these multi-million dollar mandates without placing the entire burden on current residents’ utility rates or taxes.
  • State Housing Laws: Recent California laws (such as SB 330) have limited local authority to deny or delay housing projects that meet certain criteria established by the State. To maintain local control, the City must engage in a proactive, legally defensible planning process.
  • Regional Changes: Proposals outside city limits, such as the Suisun Expansion Specific Plan, California Forever, The Solano Shipyard and regional traffic on Highway 113 are external factors that impact Dixon’s resources. Planning now allows the City to negotiate for mitigations, such as traffic bypasses, that protect our local streets.
